The law of attraction in action

Like attracts like! This is one of the great truths in life. We are attracted to people who are like us, and who think the way we do. Our values, beliefs, expectations, attitudes and actions create a magnetic energy field around us that attracts to us people and circumstances that match our energy and vibration.

Abraham-Hicks defines the law of attraction as: “That which is like unto itself is drawn”. Catherine Ponder, author of The Dynamic Law of Prosperity defines the law of attraction as: “What you radiate outward in your thoughts, feelings, mental pictures, and words, you attract into your life”.

The law of attraction is continuously at work. Imagine yourself as a huge living magnet. You are constantly radiating thought waves and these thought waves are being picked up by anyone who is tuned into a similar wavelength or vibration as you. In essence, we are powerful attractors.

Let me give you an example of what happened to me the other day. I consult for the Cape Argus Pick ‘n Pay Cycle Tour and I had just had an important meeting postponed. Disappointed at this, I was sitting alone in my favourite coffee shop, brainstorming ideas for the event. The door opened and in walked Phil Liggett, the television voice of the Tour de France and the Cycle Tour commentator. He was visiting Cape Town and this was his first morning in town. We had a great chat about cycling and Phil declared his interest in property investments in Cape Town. I said that I would put out some feelers. Just then, my phone rang, and a bond broker friend asked if I was interested in being added to a database of people who would receive daily communication of great local property investment opportunities. This is the law of attraction at play.

So how do we use this wonderful power to purposely attract more of what we want into our lives? Simply by paying clear attention to the nature of our thoughts. These powerful forces are continuously attracting people, circumstances, opportunities and relationships into your life – not all of them necessarily ideal or good. Remember that like attracts like. So while positive thoughts will attract positive things, so negative thoughts will attract negative energy. So your thoughts and desires need to be positive.

Four ways to help activate the law of attraction into your life:

  • Be absolutely clear of your purpose
    Be very clear about what you want. Write it down, using the exact words that describe what you desire. Recognise clarity and desire as power.
  • Believe
    The law of belief states that whatever you believe with emotion becomes your reality. Convert your beliefs into feelings of certainty.
  • Visualise your goal
    The positive thoughts and images that you hold in your mind are powerful. Visualisation deepens your belief that your goals are attainable. The more you visualise, the more intensely you will desire your goal.
  • Think positively
    Focus on the positive aspects of your life. Always be optimistic and look for the good in everyone and everything. Positive thinking will make you do everything better than negative thinking will.

I previously stated that we are powerful attractors. The more enthusiastic and positive you are about yourself, the more you will enhance the magnetic power of your mind. I believe that you can change anything in your life that you choose to by understanding the law of attraction and the power of your mind. A key step is to change your dominant thoughts and constantly reach for the thought that makes you feel better.
